TABLESCAPE TUESDAY - "The HUES OF BLUES" Tablescape

Hey everyone!

I hope you are having a fabulous week so far!  Here at the Home Girl household, all is well.  The kids are in camp this week...YAHOOOOOO!   They're excited...and so are we!  haha!

For today's TABLESCAPE TUESDAY, I wanted to share with you the tablescape from our latest Sunday Family Dinner!

Speaking of Sunday Family Dinners...are ?   If you are wondering what I'm talking about, here's a short blurb to familiarize you with our weekly family event!  If you've seen this before, feel free to skip this part!

We started a new family tradition in January 2013 (a New Years' Resolution) that I hope continues even after the kids are grown.

"SUNDAY FAMILY DINNERS!"

We pretty much have dinner together as a family most nights, but on Sundays, we have a special dinner in the dining room as opposed to the kitchen table, where we normally eat.

I get out the fine china and candles and make a special meal and so far, it has been something we look forward to each week.

Then once a month, we invite some of our extended family to join us for a Sunday family dinner.

It's also been giving me a chance to do lots of new TABLESCAPES..haha!

For this Sunday Family Dinner, I have named it "the HUES of BLUES".

I decided to use the inspiration of a SHOWER CURTAIN that I recently got at Goodwill.  I actually didn't notice that it was a shower curtain until I got it home and was going through my stuff at a recent Thrift Store shopping haul. I thought it was a tablecloth.

I decided that, shower curtain or not, I was going to use this on a tablescape.  I loved the muted turquoise color with the darker blue floral design...not too much, but still striking.   It wouldn't fit all the way as a tablecloth, so I simply folded it in half and decided to use it under my white tablecloth as a runner.  I'm glad I did this.  I liked the way the white kind of offset the blues and made the colors stand out a little more to me.

I kept the décor fairly simple because I wanted to "showcase" the table runner.

The centerpiece was a simple silk flower bouquet I found at a garage sale for $2, I believe.  I loved the look of these flowers.   The glue stuff at the bottom has gotten a bit browned, so if anyone knows how to clean that up, I'd love to hear ideas for that!   Other than that, I just love it!

On both sides of the centerpiece are some small Pier 1 flower bowls clustered together and a tall glass candleholder with different blue glass pieces and a white candle.

For each place setting, I used a large white charger from Old Time Pottery,

Some blue rimmed dinner plates I've had since I got married,

A pfaltzgraff blue salad plate from Goodwill,

And to top it off, a cute blue and white bird/floral designed dessert plate from Ross on clearance!

The cobalt blue glasses were from dollar tree and our church's local thrift store.   I used white napkins with blue bling napkin rings I found on Ebay.

All in all, I really like how it turned out and my family did too.

Thanks so much for joining me for another TABLESCAPE TUESDAY!   Hope you have a wonderful day!

  2. Ha! sounds like something I would do, but I think the shower curtain makes a great tablecloth! Thinking outside the box, or the bathroom!

  3. If I find out how to get rid of that brownish color in the faux water, I'll let you know. If you find out, please let me know. I have some of that water that I've not mixed up yet, and I have no idea what advance steps to take to keep it from browning up. Nothing on the box about it, either. :-(

I love that clearance plate from Ross!!! The design is really great! You could even stretch that out for a "partridge in a pear tree" tablescape!!!

What a great idea to use the shower curtain! That's real out-of-the-box thinking!

Ooh!!!! Wish I could find those ruffly white chargers at OTP!!! I've not been shopping all summer long, so I have no idea what's up for grabs out there these days.

I hope you are enjoying your summer! Take care!!!
